Adventure Awaits: Discovering the Inca Trail to Machu Picchu

Discovering the Inca Trail to Machu Picchu

I’ve always been a fan of exploring new cultures and learning about their history. So when I heard about the Inca Trail to Machu Picchu, I knew I had to go! I knew I was going to be in for an adventure and I was right – the journey was amazing!

Getting to the Trail

The first step to starting my adventure was to get to the trail itself. I chose to fly into Cusco, Peru, the gateway to the Inca Trail. From Cusco, I took a bus to Ollantaytambo, which is one of the few towns directly connected to the trail. The scenery was incredible, with breathtaking views of the mountains and terraced farms.

Exploring the Trail

The Inca Trail is a network of ancient Inca roads, stretching over 26 miles from Ollantaytambo to Machu Picchu. The trail is filled with incredible sites, like the archaeological ruins of Runkurakay, Sayacmarca, and Phuyupatamarca.

The hike itself is a mix of uphill climbs, downhill descents, and level paths. The terrain is mostly dirt and gravel, with some sections of steps. The trail is fairly easy to walk, but it’s important to take your time and watch your footing.

Immersing in the Culture

The Inca Trail is a great way to learn about and experience Inca culture. Along the way, you’ll pass through small villages and ancient sites, and see how the locals live. The Inca people are incredibly friendly and welcoming, and are always willing to share stories about their culture.

The Final Stretch

The final stretch of the trail is the most exciting, as you can finally see the majestic ruins of Machu Picchu. After four days of hiking, I finally made it to the top and got to witness the incredible views of the city. It was a truly magical experience, and one I’ll never forget.
