Mexico City, with its rich history, vibrant culture, and mouth-watering cuisine, has always been on my travel bucket list. And today, I finally get to explore this bustling metropolis. So, I grabbed my camera, a map, and my sense of adventure, and set off to discover the must-see spots in this beautiful city.
Chapultepec Castle
My first stop of the day was Chapultepec Castle, located in the heart of the city. This 18th-century castle is perched on a hill, offering stunning views of the city below. As I walked through the castle’s ornate rooms and grand halls, I couldn’t help but feel like I had stepped back in time. The castle has been home to Mexican royalty, presidents, and is now a museum, showcasing the country’s history and culture. Don’t forget to visit the castle’s gardens, which are perfect for a leisurely stroll or a picnic.
Coyoacán
Next, I made my way to the charming neighborhood of Coyoacán, known for its cobblestoned streets, colorful houses, and bohemian vibe. This neighborhood was once home to famous artists, including Frida Kahlo and Diego Rivera, and their houses have been turned into museums. I couldn’t resist visiting the Frida Kahlo Museum, also known as the Blue House, where I got a glimpse into the life and work of this iconic artist. Afterward, I explored the neighborhood’s vibrant markets, where I found unique souvenirs and delicious street food.

I also explored the Avenue of the Dead, which is lined with ancient temples and palaces. Visiting Teotihuacán is a must for anyone interested in history and architecture.
Xochimilco
After a morning of exploring, I decided to take a break and unwind at Xochimilco. This neighborhood is famous for its colorful boats, called trajineras, which can be rented for a ride along the canals. It’s the perfect spot to relax and enjoy the scenery while sipping on a refreshing drink and snacking on some delicious Mexican food. I also got to experience the lively atmosphere of Xochimilco, with live music, street vendors, and even floating mariachi bands.
Paseo de la Reforma
In the afternoon, I headed to Paseo de la Reforma, one of the city’s most iconic avenues. This wide and tree-lined street is home to some of Mexico City’s most famous landmarks, including the Angel of Independence and the Diana the Huntress Fountain. I took a leisurely stroll along the avenue, admiring the stunning architecture and bustling street life. I also made a stop at La Ciudadela, a market where I found beautiful handcrafted souvenirs and traditional Mexican goods.
Zócalo
As the day came to an end, I couldn’t miss a visit to the historic center of Mexico City, also known as Zócalo. This large square is surrounded by impressive buildings, including the National Palace and the Metropolitan Cathedral. I joined the crowds at the square to watch the daily flag ceremony, a tradition that has been taking place since the Aztec times. I also visited the Templo Mayor Museum, where I learned about the Aztec ruins that were discovered underneath the city.
Tacos al Pastor
No trip to Mexico City is complete without indulging in some mouth-watering tacos al pastor. These delicious tacos are a staple of the city’s street food scene, and I couldn’t resist trying them at one of the many taquerias in the city.
