Exploring Shanghai’s Hidden Gems
I recently visited Shanghai and was amazed by the vast number of hidden gems the city has to offer. From historical sites to modern attractions, Shanghai has something for everyone! Here are five of my favorite hidden gems in the city that I recommend you check out when you’re in the area.
The Former French Concession
One of the most interesting places I visited in Shanghai was the Former French Concession. This area was originally designated for the French to settle in the mid-1800s and its unique history can still be felt today. It’s filled with narrow streets, old buildings, and plenty of restaurants and cafes. Wander around and you’ll feel like you’ve stepped back in time.
Shanghai Yu Garden
Shanghai Yu Garden is a must-see! Located in the Old City, this beautiful garden was built in the 16th century. The garden is filled with pavilions, rockeries, ponds, and classic Chinese architecture. It’s a great place to relax and take in the stunning scenery. If you’re lucky, you may even spot a few koi fish in the ponds.
The Bund
The Bund is one of Shanghai’s most famous attractions. Located along the Huangpu River, the Bund is a 1.5-mile stretch of riverside promenade. Here you can admire the stunning views of the modern skyscrapers and the Huangpu River. It’s also a great place to take a stroll or watch the sunset.
Shanghai Museum
If you’re looking for a cultural experience, then head to the Shanghai Museum. This museum features a wide collection of Chinese artifacts, from ancient pottery to modern paintings. It’s a great place to learn about the city’s history and culture. Plus, admission is free!
Shanghai Wild Animal Park
If you’re looking for a fun outing, then visit the Shanghai Wild Animal Park. This park is home to over 500 species of animals, including pandas, tigers, and elephants. You can take a safari-style tour of the park or just explore the grounds. It’s a great way to get up close and personal with some of the world’s most exotic creatures.
Shanghai is a city full of hidden gems – these are just a few of my favorites. If you’re ever in the area, be sure to check them out!
